What Could Cause Sudden, On And Off Rapid Heartbeat?

HI Dr, Good day to you, My name is Cheng ENg Ng, I am 61 years of age, male, weight 59kg, height 6.3m. I do not smoke or drink alcohol, I am a asian. I do not have high blood pressure but I do have a slightly high bad cholesterol which I do not take any medication. Lately sometime in May 2014 I had left eye cataract operation and after 2 weeks later I felt my heart beat rapidly it goes on for half a day for 5 days. I do not feel giddy nor do I swept profusely. Yesterday that Friday 1st August 2014 this problem came back it goes on for 15mins to half an hour and it goes back to normal. I am a retiree and I do not suffer from any anxiety. Doc, can you help to explain what going on and do I need to consult a phsician Thank you

There are a good number of conditions that can cause this but I think it would be important to rule out problems related to the heart, blood shortage (anemia) and blood electrolyte imbalance.
You need to consult a physician who will ask you some few questions, look at your conjunctiva, examine your heart for irregular beats or murmurs and may be ask for tests like a full blood count, ECG and serum electrolyte panel.
