My 14 year old daughter has pinkeye and a sore throat/cold. We visited a doctor this morning who gave her eye drops and amoxicillan. I m assuming the amox is for the sore throat, not the eyes. The reason I ask is because I believe her sore throat is viral and I don t want to give her antibiotics unless she needs them. She was in the emergency room a few days ago and they tested her for strep which was negative. Anyway, after the doctor looked at her today and her amoxicillian, I wanted to check if it could possibly be for the pinkeye.
If the doctor has prescribed antibiotics after evaluation it is better you give it to her. It is likely for the sore throat and not for the pink eye that you are describing. As he has also given ear drops I am assuming there is an infection that he is treating. Dont worry, Amoxicillin is a safe medication unless she is allergic to penicillin.
