What Could Cause Hair Loss?

I have been experiencing hair loss for four years after coming off the birth control pill alesse. according to all doctors my hormone levels are normal. one thought i had PCOS however i am skinny and have regular period 27-30 days every cycle. a doctor thought i had TE.... however it has continued for four years now. I have noticed that my hair has become dry and brittle looking now. it is thinner on top and my part is a little more diffuse now. it has been concluded by blood work that i am iron deficient, so am now taking 300mg capsules. i had a biopsy done and doc thought that maybe it was TE and AGA.... however my mom is 61 and has a full head of hair... just has normal thinning of a 61 year old... her mom and my fathers mom both had a full head of hair as well. Is this TE or AGA..... or just due to low iron??? also a naturopath said i was zinc definicient but i'm not too sure how accurate he is.... he said i was zinc deficient by doing a taste test with some liquid. i am afraid of trying minoxidil. would the birth control pill Diane help??? plus i was also looking into herbs like fenugreek and saw palmetto that is suppose to help block DHT.... do they acutually work??? however i read somewhere that saw palmetto interfers with iron absorption and since im iron deficient that would make it worse. help
