What Could Burning And Itching Sensation In Neck And Shoulders Indicate?

Hello, I was just reading the forums about itchy neck and shoulders and my husband has been going mad over it. His neck starts with a burning and itching sensation beneath the skin and his is scratching so badly he has to sleep with socks on to prevent a secondary skin infection. Beneadryl and anti itch/ hydrocortizone doesn t help. He has talked to his GP about this, however months have gone by and no diganosis or relief

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that his itching may be due to dermatitis. There are different types, the ones that may be involved are: (1) allergic (2) contact irritant- some chemical or substance irritating the skin in this area (3)seborrheic dermatitis

He may need a stronger steroid cream such the one is using is one of the very mild ones and is not working for him.
If it is related to seborrheic dermatitis then a topical anti fungal cream may also be needed.

He may want to consider seeing a dermatologist for assistance.

I hope this helps
