Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Could Be Wrong If Having Swelling Below The Thumb After Falling On Hand?
I fell on my hand/wrist during a basketball game on Friday. At first I couldn't move it at all but it got better with time. over the past few days the swelling has went down except at the base of my thumb palm side. There is also some slight bruising. What's wrong?
I am so sorry to hear about this fall and the resulting swelling. It is normal to observe a swelling after fall because of the tissue aggression. I will suggest that you get pain and inflammation relievers like diclofenac or Ibuprofen to help control the symptoms. If pain should persist, strongly consider to have an X-ray to make sure there is no fracture that may need a different management plan.
I hope this addresses your query fully. Thank you so much for patronizing our services and please do feel free to ask for follow up clarifications and information if need be. I wish you the best of health. Dr. Ditah, MD.
