What Could Be The Reason For The Significant Change In Taste?

I am a 66 yr old male and have within the last week had a significant change in taste, losing 90% of taste, and followed by an unpleasant after taste (not metallic). I have little desire to even eat now. I have not had any changes in medications over the last five years. I'm taking several supplements...any ideas? We have searched on the internet and nothing seems to pinpoint the suddenness of onset of these symptoms...Please advise. Thank you!

Thanks for query at hcm.generally taste sensation decreases after the age of 60.as your history suggests that you are having mettaluc taste .it is called Dysgeusia, if genuine, should be investigated regarding the stimulus and how it is gaining access to the mouth. If the dysgeusia is due to tastant, the use of mouth rinse should make it disappear. The application of a local anesthetic and normal cranial nerve examination also validate that dysgeusia is caused by a tastant.I sencierky suggest you to consult a neurologist regarding this if its really bothering you.regards

HI
Thank for asking to HCM
If you are not taking any drugs and do not have neurological problems then the chances of stomatitis is likely particularly the infection part would be the tongue, If I would be your doctor then I would start the oral application, containing antimicrobial agent and "Folic acid, vitamin B 12" and this will bring the test back again, have nice day.
