What Could Be The Cause Of Severe Itching In The Ears And Difficulty In Hearing?

I have severe itching deep inside my right ear and I m having alot of trouble hearing. My mother had a problem with the same thing. She had to have skin pulled off her ear drum every so often and I can t remember what it s called. I thought I might have the same diagnosis. Do you know what it could possibly be?
