What Could Be The Black Spot Seen In The X-ray Of The Toe?

My daughter had a xray of her left big toe (thinking it may be broke)and the podiatrist said there was a black spot on her distal phalanx , so he needed further advice before making a decision. 2 xrays of both great toes, right was normal and left had a black spot. What does this mean?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

It is a bit difficult to imagine the exact location of the black spot on the X ray of toe distal phalynx. However to me it looks like a small finding which might not be serious. X rays use the property of penetration and scattering by different tissues and shadow formation subsequently. You have not mentioned possibility of any foreign body either.
