What Causes Yellow Vaginal Discharge?

I have no fever. No pain. No itching. I had a heat rash in the crease under my abdomin and at the crease at the top of one leg. I do have a yellow vaginal discharge. I went to a nurse practitioner Wednesday later week. She gave me a script for an antifungal, which I have taken. I live in Louisiana and we flooded in August. Life is very stressful.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for your question.

The absence of pain and vaginal itch makes a sexually transmitted infection and fungal infection less likely. A more likely diagnosis would be bacterial vaginosis, a condition which occurs if there's an alteration in the vaginal environment, for example, due to douching or having a new sex partner. Treatment of bacterial vaginosis, after I have confrmed it via laboratory investigations, is metronidazole

However, I advise you to revisit your doctor, to send you for a laboratory test in which the vaginal discharge would be viewed under a microscope and cultured to detect what microbe is responsible. This should be done before commencing you on treatment.

I hope I have answered your question

Best wishes.
