What Causes Yellow Spots On The Tongue While On Dexamethasone?

Thank you.. I am taking Dexamethasone 1mg tabs after MVD surgery 2 wks ago. Gradually decreasing... Have yellowish rough spots on tongue and just noticed what may be a few small whitish blisters inside lips. Allergic reaction to Experiencing? Or to occasional Norco for pain? Would appreciate your thoughts. Becky

Hello,

Yellow rough spots on the tongue can be due to overgrown tongue papillae while it can also be due to debris accumulation over the tongue papillae. Overgrowth of yeast and bacteria can also be a cause. Whitish blisters on the inner lips can be either Fordyce's spots or hyperplasia of sebaceous glands or can be canker or cold sores. A clinical examination is a must for confirmation. For now,
-You can gargle with 1:1 solution of hydrogen peroxide and water.
-You can dip a soft toothbrush in solution and clean tongue with it.
-Do warm saline gargles.
-Maintain good oral hygiene.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
