What Causes Yellow And Purple Discoloration On Tongue After Tongue Piercing?

I got my tongue pierced 5 days ago. Everything seemed to be fine I just experienced swelling, which gone down today, and a whitish yellow coat, which I was told by my piercer that it was normal. But now the sides of my tongue have gone a bit purple. So the center of my tongue is yellow and the sides are purple. Also the back of my tongue, where my throat is, has scattered whitish red bumps which are not painful. I used a mild non alcohol based mouthwash after every meal and for the first 3 days I took Dalacin C 300mg. Does this mean that my tongue is infected? I m worried because I heard that tongue infection can lead to amputation :( Appreciate your help.

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain whitish yellow coating on the tongue after tongue piercing seems to be due to lack of proper cleaning of the tongue while the purple discolouration and reddish bumps seems to be due inflammation only..
Whitish red bumps in throat seems to be due to mild bacterial infection..
It does not seem to be a severe case to be needing amputation of tongue..
I would suggest you to consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and he can advise you a course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen and along with it do warm saline gargles and cool compresses over the tongue..
In case if you are wearing tongue ring of any metal that is not inert like gold then it would be better to wear gold or plaster tongue ring so that it does not cause any allergic reaction..
