What Causes Worsening Of Eye Sight Despite Wearing Glasses?

I am confused, This is a vision question.I have always been near sighted with astigmatism and wore noline trifocal / multifocal glasses and colored contacts (at my last eye exam 2yrs ago my near sighted-ness had improved so much, I received a new rx ,but my new exam 2yrs post they had gotten worse, he says they have changed and I m now farsighted with astigmatism . He prescribed me with noline bifocal/multifocal glasses and Air Optix colored contacts BC 8.6 DIA 14.2 and pwr -0.00 plano, He explained my farsighted results had one positive eye and one negative eye /canceling each other out so he had to go with the 0.00 power. I see fine with my new glasses but I cannot read closeup with my contacts at all. ( Can I not wear multi/bifocal contacts? I don t understand why I m suddenly farsighted at 56 since have been nearsighted since age 12, I do have an appt with ENT as my ears have been plugged fro over 4 mos, allergy meds helping me breathe and nose running nonstop but the pressure behind my eyes makes them painful to touch, hope that has nothing to do this vision change.

Hi,

Vision changes can be caused by a variety of factors, including age, medical conditions, eye diseases, and changes in prescriptions. In your case, the changes in your vision may be related to age and normal eye changes that can occur over time. It is also possible that the changes in your prescription are related to underlying medical conditions or eye diseases, such as cataracts or glaucoma.

Regarding your difficulty reading close-up with your contacts, it is possible that the prescription for your contacts may not be correct, or that you may need a different type of contact lens for close-up reading. It is also possible that you may benefit from reading glasses or a different type of corrective lens for close-up tasks.

Your ENT appointment may be related to your eye symptoms, as changes in vision can sometimes be related to sinus or ear problems. It is important to discuss your eye symptoms with your doctor, including any changes in vision, pain or pressure behind your eyes, or other concerns. Your doctor may recommend further testing or referral to an eye specialist if necessary.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
