What Causes White Patches On Tongue In Infant?

Hullo Doc, My 23 months old son has some sort of white patches on his tongue, they usually come and go yet i clean it every day. At first i thought they were wounds but then i was told its the nature of his tongue. Kindly advise please. Regards, Jessie

I have gone through your query and can very well understand your health concerns..

As per your complain white patches on tongue can be symptoms of Yeast infection on tongue known as Oral Thrush or Candidiasis..
It is a fungal infection caused by fungus Candida Albicans leading to formation of cheesy white patches on tongue and other mucosal surfaces..

I would suggest you to consult a Paediatric Dentist and get evaluated..
In case of Thrush antifungal medicines like FLUCONAZOLE or ITRACONAZOLE are given for a period of 14 days..
Along with it antifungal lozenges , NYSTATIN mouthwash and Oral drops can be prescribed by the Paediatric Dentist..
Add more of Probiotics like Yoghurt and garlic in his diet..

It is a treatable condition and you need not to worry about it..
