As per your complain spitting of thick brown chalky stuff can be seen in case of acid reflux when the acid reflux from stomach to throat and causes excessive mucous mixed with acid and of it has a brownish appearance it can be due to blood that must have occurred due to bleeding from mucous of throat due to Acid irritation.. Other cause can be post nasal drip secondary to sinus infection.. If you do not have any other symptoms or problems and it has happened for the first time you need not to worry but in case of repeated episodes consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated.. On the other hand white stuff in your husband s mouth seems to be due to a most common cause of white coating in mouth that is Yeast infection known as Oral Thrush.. It can occur due to a number of conditions like Dry mouth, intake of antibiotics, Oral and inhalation Steroids, Diabetes, poor hygiene etc.. He needs a clinical examination from an Oral Physician and if Thrush is the cause Nystatin mouthwash and clotrimazole lozenges along with eating ample of Probiotics like Yoghurt and garlic will help..
