What Causes White Film Covering The Lungs?

My father had a procedure done where two tubes where inserted in his side to drain fluid from his right lung and send a fiber optic camera to look at lung and biopsies were taken. It was said the lung was covered by a white film and it was growing into the lung so could not be removed. What is this called and what could be the cause. He had non hodgkins lymphoma twelve years ago. .

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what your father had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it can be pleura relates deformities whether the collection of fluids; like in pleural effusion or pleurisy; may be due to old lymphoma or post-chemotherapy but can also be infective or malignant like mesothelioma.

The kind of work he has been shown that management plan is good and hopefully he is on the right course of diagnosis and management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
