What Causes Wheezing And Shortness Of Breath While Suffering From COPD?

I have coped, asthma& diabetes. I had pneumonia from Sept to Beginning of Feb 2017 but recuperated. Last 5 days wheezing, coughing breathing with rattle in chest short of breath if I move. Think I could be getting pneumonia again or cope becoming more intense?

Hi,

There can be several reasons for that:

(1) Diabetes mellitus as you are suffering from. Diabetes can lead to chest discomfort.

(2) Bacterial infection again as you have already suffered from pneumonia. Recurrent infections are often observed in diabetic patients.

(3) COPD, asthma as you are suffering can cause breathlessness, wheezing. Overall you need to have a general physical examination, case history and necessary tests like radiograph of chest, blood glucose tests, urine tests.

Therefore, I advise you to see a physician and get yourself checked. Your problem can be due to Uncontrolled diabetes mellitus or independently from infections.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Soheel Hussain Zargar,
