What Causes Weight Gain While Taking Norethindrone?

I ve gained 20 lbs in a month of starting estradiol/norethindrone tablets 1.0 mg/0.5 mg. I was put on these hormones to wean me off of birth control that was regulating my periods and see where I am with menopause. My doc says we will cut it in half after the third month, go for three more months and I should be done with them. Will I lose this weight after I get off of these? The weight is very uncomfortable.

Hello and welcome.

Yes, weight gain with hormonal supplements or due to a hormonal imbalance in the body is a common side effect. The weight loss completely depends on the level of your hormones after discontinuing the medications. Your menopause may cause a few fluctuations, but you should be better than you were whilst on the pills.

Change your lifestyle that includes diet, more exercise, be more active, and hopefully this makes a difference.

Best wishes
