What Causes Weight Gain While On Norvasc, Epilim And Galvus?

My wife is on Norvasc 5mg, Epilim 600mg, Galvus Met 50/500mg, Concor 2.5mg and Diamicron 120mg. From my initial research all but Concor causes weight gain. We have watched our diet , reduced unnecessary calorie intake all to no avail. The weight continues to increase. Since being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder 20 years ago her weight has increased from 125 to 240 pounds. Our doctors, while admitting to some extent that meds are contributing to the weight, gain are not being proactive beyond giving advice on portion sizes. What options do we have?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is also possible that the epilim is contributing to the weight gain. Medications cause weight gain in different ways such as: (1)increasing appetite
(2)decreasing fullness
(3)decreasing energy and activity levels
(4)altering metabolism

Monitoring diet and making sure to be active would help in those areas.

If portion sizes are not helping then she may want to try the low carb diet. Portion sizes are usually related to low fat/low cal diet. Since this has not been helpful then she can try the low carb and see if this helps.

This does not look at portions but at carbohydrate content. There are different meal plans available online.

She may need to consider meal replacements for one or two of her daily meals, this has also been found to be useful

I hope this helps
