What Causes Weight Gain After A Colectomy?

After laparoscopic R colectomy and recovery, is it possible that food absorbs differently and cause weight gain? My eating habits are the same, exercising back to presurgery, but noticing weight gain around mid section that is frustrating, to say the least. Any insight? Thanks!

Hi,

It is very unlikely to be related to your right colectomy. If you are certain that higher caloric intake (or lower exercise levels) are not to blame, see your doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Anders Mark Christensen, General Surgeon
