What Causes Weakness In The Right Arm And Dementia?

My husband age 80 and has increasing dementia, has developed a weakness in his right hand grip to the point it is difficult for him to hold a spoon and find him eating with his left hand. He has no pain and it was just a sudden onset with no injury. Any info of what it could be? Of course my main concern is stroke and he will not go to ER. We have check ups scheduled in about 4 days but I fear to wait that long.
