What Causes Weakness In The Legs?

I have had this problem since winter 2014 and it is getting worse. I seem to be losing power in my legs and when I put them under pressure they burn and ache. My toes especially on the left foot tingle most of the time. Also at night my legs ache and have a tingling sensation. Can you help. Thank you Linda Bachmann

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
Welcome to health care magic.

Weakness, pain and tingling in legs can be due to neuropathy/pinched nerve.

You havent mentioned since when you have got this problem andd what is your age.
May I know-
-Does the pain appears on physical activity?
-Does it worsens at night?
Is it associated with backache?

I recomend you to first get certain blood investigatiins done like fasting blood glucose, serum calcium and phosphate, serum Vitamin B12 levels.
If associated with backache get MRI spine done to see any possibility of pinched nerve due to degenerative changes in spine.
I therefore advise you to consult orthopaedician for detailed physical examination in that regard.
Analgesics like ibuprofen or acetaminophen can be used for couple of days for the pain relief.
If not relieved, neurological drugs like gabapentin /carbamezapine can be prescribed for non responding tingling and pain.
Further specific management depends upon the cause.

Hope I answered your query.
Feel free to ask any further doubt.

Thanks and regards.
