What Causes Vulva Infection Leading To Pain And Swelling?

Hi doctor, Iam 25 years old. I was married one year ago. From the last two months Iam suffering with infection in the vulva which was very paiful and swollen. It gets cured only after the swelling will be broken with the discharge of pus. Iam suffering from painful intercourse. Suggest me what to do please

Hi and thanks for sharing your question with us on HCM.

Your symptoms suggest an ongoing infection, possibly bacterial. The vulva is very susceptible to getting infected in many women as it is located near the anal region and is covered most of the day. The dark surrounding and dampness due to normal physiological secretion and perspiration make it easy for bacteria to multiply and cause an infection.

I am concerned that you describe a swelling that discharged pus when 'broken'. You could be having an abscess and if not treated, this abscess can lead to a serious infection of the pelvis and even of the urinary tract. You are very young - a serious infection of the pelvis can result in difficulty conceiving.

You need to urgently see your regular doctor and let them examine you. Chances are you may have an abscess that will require incision and drainage and you will need to be put on antibiotics.

The other potential complication is that this infection gets out of hand and goes into your blood causing sepsis which can make you fall very ill.

Please see your regular doctor urgently.
Take care and thank you.
