What Causes Vomiting, Headache And Fatigue After Consuming Alcohol?

Hi, on Thursday, I went swimming in an extremely chlorinated pool. It left me with little rashes wherever I had cuts, completely bleached my friends swimmers and left all of us stinging for days. That same day, I was drinking alcohol and threw up. It was about 10/11 standard drinks over 7 or so hours (I m a girl BTW). However even when threw up, i was completely in control. I did not feel dizzy or have the room spin which was really odd. Now, 3 days later I still feel incredibly nauseous, fatigued, with headaches. I recieved the headache the next day, however the nausea started about 24h after swimming , 22 after drinking, accompanied by severe cramps. Also keep in mind, I got my period the day the cramps began. I was just wondering why I still feel so sick and bed ridden. I can barely do anything as I feel so sick, uncoordinated and tired which is really usual. I have drank before and had hangovers but this is different. Could it be something to do with the pool?

Hello

I have Read your statement and i understand your concern about headache nausea and fatigue after swimming

No, your symptoms are not due to alcohol intake.

Chlorine is irritant to mucous membrane of throath, nasal sinus and auditory membrane.

Your headache might be due to subacute infection due to water borne bacteria gaining access to your membranes of upper respiratory track ie sinuses, ear and throat. This is called sinusitis. It causes headache and nausea (when ear is involved). Fatigue may be due to over exertion and sinusitis associated.

If i would be your physician, i would prescribe you tab Azithromycin 250mg 2 tablets on first day and then one tab daily for 6 days and would tell you not to take it less than an hour after or before meal as it causes loose motions when taken so

I would have also advised you to take decongestant like Tab Fexofenadine 120 mg once a day for 8 days

thanks
Dr Nasir
