What Causes Vomiting Every Morning After Having Shot In Stomach?

Hi, my boyfriend dry heaves or vomits every single morning. Sometimes it comes on later in the morning. He was shot in the stomach and leg 10 months ago and it seemed to start shortly after. The drs removed a kidney part of his liver and bowel. He has asked his dr about this problem and we cant seem to get a straight answer. They told him not to drink anymore and he completely stopped but the heaves did not. Can you please offer any suggestions as to what this may be or at least what tests we should request?
