What Causes Voice Croaking In The Mornings?

Hi, for some months now i have noticed that in the mornings my voice is quite croaky. it tends to wear off a bit during the mornign but nevertheless remains noticeably croaky ( people keep asking me if i have a cold or sore throat) I dont have either a cold or sore throat althoughh i do have catarrh in my sinuses. I am 61 years old, weigh 70 kilos and am 5' 3" and was a smoker for 40 years, stopping 4 years ago. I have low energy levels but that has been the case for a long time since having post viral fatigue several years ago

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

A change in voice with past history of smoking has to be investigated with laryngoscopy by Ears, Nose, and Throat (ENT) doctor to rule out any pathology of vocal cords.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Manu Wilfred
