What Causes Visual Hallucinations In An Elderly Person?

Mom is 79 . Is in need of a Doctor who can help her. For the most part she is fine. Sometimes she sees people or animals in her house then becomes afraid. Calls 911 when really no one is in her house. May be Paranormal. I m not sure. But she is convinced they are there with her. Goes on the offensive against anyone saying otherwise. Like, hey its ok, they are not there. You are safe. At times I have been told that she needs a new Doctor, not internal medicine Dr. anymore.. There is no way to convince her of this after she is worn out after having insomnia 2 or 3 nights in a row. She does better eventually after getting enough rest. My name is Scott. Her youngest son. Her insurance is Humana. She has Medicare and Medicaid.

Hello there I have read through your question and understand your concern. She is showing signs of dementia which is very common at her age. Seeing people and animals in her house even though they are not there means she is having hallucinations which can also be a part of dementia. You need to get her assessed by a neurosurgeon. She may need to get an MRI brain depending upon the results of her physical and neurological examination. i hope that answers your question. if you have any other questions please feel free to write. Thank you for choosing healthcare magic.
