What Causes Violent Shaking, Vomiting, Severe Headache And Tiredness?

After I ate breakfast yesterday, almost immediately I started shivering uncontrollably. Thinking I was just cold, I put on a light jacket and went to work. However, the uncontrollable shaking interferred. This uncontrollable shaking lasted for about three hours. Just guessing here, but I eventually threw up and notice it was mostly my breakfast, a sausage and egg biscuit. After throwing up, the shakes seemed to subside and then I became very, very tired. I could not keep my eyes open. I went home at noon and all I did was sleep. Very, very tired. Went to bed early, 7:30 and slept most all night. Today, I have a really bad headache. Not nauseated. Ate a small bowl of cheerios this morning. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You seem to be having gastroenteritis (stomach flu). This is generally a viral infection and should fade spontaneously within a few days. Meanwhile, you will need to make sure you keep yourself hydrated. You will need to use oral rehydration solutions (over the counter in pharmacy) and Ibuprofen and paracetamol to help with the headache and fever (shakiness means you are having chills and fever).

if you are not better in a few days or you notice any worsening or if you are not able to keep any fluids in due to vomiting then you will need to see your doctor.

I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.

Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General and Family Physician
