What Causes Very Slight Concussion In Young Adults?

Can my 17 year old son ride a roller coaster tomorrow? He fainted four days ago and the doctor says he may have a very slight concussion. He doesn t have any signs of a concussion other than trying to balance on one leg with his eyes closed. Not that he can t, but he wobbles a little. This is what led the doctor to believe he had a slight concussion. He is 6ft 1 in and 172 pounds. To play it safe, he has been resting at home for 4 days - no physical activity, video games or studying. He is extremely restless and was invited to a small amusement park in our area. PLEASE advise

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Fainting in young adults is mainly due to less supply of oxygen and energy to the brain. It way be due to heat stroke or hypoglycemia (decreased plasma glucose levels).
You can check about any of the above conditions by the following simple tests:
1. Check for anaemia by getting your Hemoglobin estimated.
2. Check for glucose homeostasis by getting a Random Plasma Glucose done.
If the above tests are normal, you don't have to worry. Just eat healthy diet and keep your physical fitness.
In case your hemoglobin content is low (which can cause decreased oxygen supply), you can supplement with iron and folic acid tablets with protein rich and iron rich food.
