What Causes Vaginal Spotting While Using Nuva Ring?

Hi, So I have starting back on birth control on November 19th, and am using the Nuva Ring and i have been spotting/bleeding for over a week now. I have no pain at all but just wondering if i need to be concerned or is it just from starting back on birth control? Thank You, Amanda

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi Amanda,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
In the initial few months, some may experience side effects of contraceptive devices like Nuva-ring in the form of irregular bleeding, spotting, prolonged bleeding and heavy flow. It should stabilise by about 3 - 6 months.
In case such symptoms persists and become bothersome, you need a review your contraceptive device and switch to the one which would suit you. In that case, kindly seek medical attention promptly.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
