What Causes Vaginal Spotting During Pregnancy?

My friend has small retro placental fluid collection 10*6mm at 11weeks2days scan with active foetal movement and heartbeat. She had orgasm the previous day and bright red spotting(very little) Doctor advised abstinence and bed rest. Could she have risk of miscarriage ?

Bright red vaginal.spotting after intercourse during early pregnancy is common. It is due to the fact that cervix is rich in blood supply during pregnancy and irritation of cervix during intercourse result in spotting. It does not necessarily indicate miscarriage. However, if she develops pain, bleeding worsens or is not stopping, then a pelvic ultrasound is indicated to rule out miscarriage.
