What Causes Vaginal Spotting After Taking Orthotrycylen?

Hi I take orthotricylcin (birth control) and I skipped the sugar pills to miss my period and I ended up spotting until I got my next period. I didn t take my pills at the exact time each day and was wondering if that was a factor as to why I was spotting. I d like to skip my sugar pills this month but will I spot again for the next month?

Hello,

Taking sugar pills causes a drop in the hormone level & the uterus sheds its lining & you get your periods. It is healthy to get periods every month while you are on CP. However, if you skip the sugar pills you may have spotting or the period may get eliminated. You should take the sugar pills(placebo pills) so that you start the next pack in time. Little carelessness or delay in starting the next pack can interfere with the hormone level & cause you to ovulate. That may increase your chances of getting pregnant.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
