What Causes Vaginal Pain During Intercourse?

Hey, I have been on Depo for almost a year now. Me and my boyfriend do have unprotected sex, and does let out in me. A couple weeks ago, he hit a spot when he let out in me, and now it s hard to have sex because it s hurts, and what s the chance of me being pregnant? My lower pelvic has been painful, and I have horrible gas, more then usual.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concerns.

The pain you feel when having sex is because of hard/dry sex you had a couple of weeks ago.

If you are still on Depo shot, there are less chances to get pregnant.

Vaginal infection should be ruled out through vaginal swab testing and abdominal ultrasound.

Having gas more than usual might be due to:
- hormonal changes
- gastritis/GERD
- bowel infection (e.g. candida, etc.)

Abdominal ultrasound and clinical examination are important in determining the right cause.

For the moment, I advise to:
- keep a good vaginal hygiene
- avoid foods that would increase gas in bowels
- take simethicone for bloating
- take papaverine to relieve abdominal pain

All the best!
