What Causes Vaginal Odor?

after my period (so a week and a half ago) i have had burning and itchiness, the pain is really bad and would happen most likely at night. Now the pain has gone, there has been a foul cheese/fish/metal smell, before my vagina would smell but not this bad, however i would get alot of discharge. But now i could literally walk and i could smell it. My boyfriend can t even finger me without the whole room smelling and his fingers either, and he cant lick me out either because of the smell. To be honest, i cannot stand the smell myself. I dont have disharge anymore but the smell is so off putting. whether this links to anything or if the reason has something to do with my period, I have had sex before but we have it with a condom and his fingers would be clean before he would reach down in my vagina, i clean my vagina on a daily basis too, what could be the reason?

Welcome to HCM
Dr Amit. I can understand your concern very well
Vaginal odor is typically from inflammation of the vaginal area. Inflammation of the vaginal area can occur because of poor hygiene but is often a result of infection in or around the vagina.
A common infection that can cause vaginal odor is overgrowth of the normal vaginal bacteria to cause bacterial vaginosis or retained or forgotten tampon.
I will advice you to seek medical advice as early as possible and start antibiotic for the underlying infection. Generally metronidazole for bacterial vaginosis and antifungal creams for yeast infection is prescribed.
I will also emphasis to keep the vagina clean by washing regularly with a gentle soap and warm water. And Never use douches.
Feel free to ask if you have any other query
