What Causes Vaginal Bleeding Post Intercourse?

I had sex with my boyfriend today, and everything was fine until a couple hours later it felt like I had started my period. I went to wipe and there was bright red blood with a little lighter red blood to the side. I was on birth control for 2 1/2 months and then stopped taking it about a month ago. I m due for my period soon so idk if this could just be signs from that or what.

I really appreciate your concern, if you are suspicious about pregnancy so this is not the conception but such bleeding is common when taking some hormone medicine and this is nothing to worry, hope this information helps, take care and have a nice day.
