What Causes Vaginal Bleeding After Taking Norlevo 2 Hours Post Intercourse?

Hello! I had unprotected sex the day my period finished. He didn t ejaculate inside me but I m always very paranoid of any accidents happening due to pre-cum so I took Norlevo 2 hours after sex. I started bleeding 5 days after taking the pill (day 10 on my cycle). It looks like a normal period. Is this a bad thing or normal? I have taken Norlevo before and never experienced bleeding afterwards. I m quite stressed and paranoid. Should my regular period come again the day it should before taking the pill? Or does it start counting the day I started bleeding after taking Norlevo? Any help would be great, thank you!

Hello,
Thank you for asking at HCM.
Norlevo is a hormone that is used as plan B (emergency contraception)and that sometimes women using it might get bleeding. Up to 50 % of women using it might experience this so it is usual.
What I would say is:
1. changes in menstrual bleeding is often after use of Norlevo
2. You would expect the next period by calculation of the dates from the last bleeding episode (the bleeding after taking Norlevo) not the dates you would expect it before you had used Norlevo
3. emergency contraception is not recommended to be used as the routine continuous mode of contraception.
4. The more often you use it the more likely irregular bleeding is expected to happen due to hormonal changes it induces
5. Speak with your doctor about the most indicated contraception method in your case so you can have regular birth control measures and not just sporadic ones as emergency contraception.
6. If you have regular periods generally you can also learn of the normal menstrual cycle and try to predict the time of ovulation and be more careful of unprotected intercourse at that time. Condoms can be used also and no prescription needed but for oral contraception you will need prescription.

Hope this is helpful to you and answers to your question

Best regards,
