What Causes Urinating Difficultly When Taking Cipralex?

i have started taking cipralex a couple of weeks ago. i had increased anxiety and nausia but that seems to have reduced now but i am now finding it more difficult to urinate. it takes a while to get started, starts very weak and doesnt get to be strong flow, and at the end it stops prematurely and i have to spurt out the last remaining urine by contracting my muscles. Should i be concerned about this?

Hi,

Cipralex contains escitalopram which belongs to the group of medications known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) is used to treat depression, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). Side effects of Cipralex are nausea, vomiting, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, fatigue, anxiety, bruising, inability to urinate, involuntary movements of body, dark coloured urine, runny nose, fever, heartburn, loss of appetite, insomnia, increased sweating, changes in heart rate, diarrhea or constipation, allergic reactions etc. These side effects will often improve over the first week or two as you continue to take the medication. If they persist or bother you for long, then consult your doctor for medical help.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
