General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read your message carefully and understood your medical problem.

Rapaflo or Silodosin is a drug used to relax the muscles of the prostate gland and the muscles of the neck of the bladder. This helps to make it easy to urinate. It is an alpha-adrenergic blocker and is prescribed to men with benign prostate hyperplasia.

Before I say my final opinion I would like to know more about your prostate health and general health, especially what other medications are you taking. Rapaflo can interact with many drugs and may cause adverse effects.

Let your doctor know if you are taking other drugs similar to Rapaflo, antibiotics, antivirals, and heart medications. This is very important as it can damage your everyday life due to orthostatic hypertension and dizziness.

Sometimes men with enlarged prostate suffer from a comorbid condition called overactive bladder that causes urge incontinence. This is often due to the nerve damage of the bladder but this is not the only cause. Inflammation and bladder stones cause urge incontinence too.

I see that Rapaflo didn't work with you. This means that maybe the problem is not just the prostate gland. Further investigation is needed to identify if there is any other problem present. The bladder needs to be investigated through radiology and function tests (urodynamic tests) to identify any trouble in the low urinary tract. Urine culture and routine blood tests must be repeated.

All the medical data needs to be evaluated again. If comes out that the problem is still the prostate gland then you can take the decision to do surgery or a laser treatment to reduce the dimensions of the gland.

My advice is that you first must discuss with your doctor the option to substitute Rapaflo with another similar drug and watch for the result. If it fails again then surgery or laser therapy will be the next step.

Hope this is useful for you.
Thank you.
