What Causes Urinary Incontinence In An Elderly Person?

I am a very health 82 year old with a leaky bladder. My OB/GYN doc has suggested I try the super size tampon to hold back my bladder . I willing to try it, but thought a second opinion would be helpful. I m not favoring the idea of surgery. Thank you for your opinion. nhp

Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Urinary incontinence is very common in old age.
In old age, muscles start relaxing and loosing their tone.
Same way, nerves loose their sensations and functions.
Due to relaxation of Pelvic floor and bladder muscles and poor functions of Pelvic nerves, Urinary incontinence is seen.
Surgery for this is not very successful.
So better to try nonsurgical measures like Pelvic floor muscle strengthening exercises, tampons etc.
So along with tampons, you should also consult physiotherapy and start strengthening exercise.
This will also help you.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
