What Causes Unusual Taste In The Mouth After Discontinuing Flagyl And Ciprofloxacin?
Hi I ve been on flagyl for 7 days and ciprofloxacin for over 10. I was diagnosed with inflammation on the tip of my appendix. I stopped taking the doses last night. I have a weird taste in my mouth, is this due to the medication or is there something serious going on inside my body? Would I know if my appendix burst?
Hi & Welcome to HCM. It seems to be caused by the medication Flagyl. Flagyl (Metronidazole) is known to cause dry mouth, an unpleasant or sharp metallic taste, and a change in taste sensation. It will subside upon discontinuing Flagyl after a couple of days. For temporary relief of you can use sugarless candy or gum, melt bits of ice in your mouth, or use a saliva substitute. If you continue to feel metallic taste or dry mouth for more than 2 weeks consult your medical doctor or dentist. If the inflamed (infected) appendix bursts you will experience severe abdominal pain, vomiting, fall in BP which is a life threatening condition called as peritonitis for which you need to consult a general surgeon immediately. Hope this answers your query.
