What Causes Unusual Pain In Jaw, Neck And Shoulders?

I am a 27 year old female who up until now has been in relatively normal health. About a month ago I started having chest pains, after a visit to the ER where they took blood and did an EKG, they concluded that it was probably GERD causing the pains. I was given Prilosec which didn t help much, after seeing my Primary Care Provider, I was put on Nexium and Zantac which seemed to be helping for a little while. I had an upper GI test where I was given Barium to drink and had X rays taken. This came back and showed no signs of GERD at the time. Since then I have been back in the ER twice with chest and back pains, I have had another EKG which was normal, 2 chest x-rays which were normal, and also had my cardiac enzymes checked twice through blood work, and that came back normal as well. I sometimes feel a pain in my jaw and in my neck and shoulders. The pains seem to be very unpredictable and don t usually last for very long. Could this be GERD or does it seem like something with my heart?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I do not think the pain you're feeling in your neck and shoulders is not related to heart or GERD but to possible problems with your spinal cord. Please check it out with your neurologist and orthopedic specialist to rule out possible spine problems. Meanwhile, take Paracetamol or Ibuprofen for the pain; and probiotics and antacids for the stomach problems.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
