What Causes Umbilical Area Swelling After Hernia Surgery?

Hi there, I just had corrective surgery for an umbilical hernia. Right after the operation I noticed that the bulge where the hernia was removed, although now on a different side of my bellybutton, is exactly the same size as it was before the procedure. When I asked the surgeon about the new lump he said that it was normal and was swelling. It has now been 2 weeks. Most of the swelling in other areas is completely gone, but alas the giant bulge is still there. What gives?

It is possible that you have a new hernia. You should follow up with your surgeon so that he can examine you again and give you a more definitive answer.
