Last night my left thumb began to twitch -I assumed it wasnothing to worry about but wondered if it was linked to arthritic shoulder caused by fracture after bicycle accident 4 years ago.My shoulder is painful at present. However I am now worrying about serious neurological disorders mentioned online. That'll teach me. How long should I leave it before I get it checked out? I am just (a young, fit and active) 60 years of age.
Your symptoms could be related to a nerve damage or a pinched nerve in this arm or shoulder level, probably related to the trauma. An electrolyte imbalance can also mimic this situation. For this reason, I would recommend consulting with a neurologist and performing a nerve conduction study. Some blood lab tests (complete blood count, blood electrolytes, uric acid levels, thyroid hormone levels) are also needed to exclude other possible metabolic causes. Hope you will find this answer helpful!
