What Causes Twitching In The Legs And Lower Back Pain?

Hello, My husbands legs twitch and cramp up. At night, while he sleeps it happens a lot. He s now having lower back pain and joint pain as well. The pain in his lower back and legs gets better when in a hot steam bath. He s 35 and very healthy. I m researching online for some possibilities to an answer. Any advice or suggestions? Thanks - Laura

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Muscle twitching may have many causes, this may be normal after exercising, other common causes include caffeine or alcohol. Nutritional problems like low hemoglobin, calcium may also cause it.

Besides this, there are few non-serious syndromes like restless leg syndrome, benign cramp and fasciculation syndrome.

Uncommonly it may be associated with serious disease of the nerves. So it's better to be seen by a doctor, though it's not serious most of the times.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
