Hi I ve had glandular fever the past few weeks, the first sign of it included waking up with tonsilitis one morning, and I went off alcohol for 6 weeks and I rested lots and I finally feel much better. However this weekend I finally had a few drinks and late nights and I have woken up with severe tonsilitis , does this mean I can t drink again? It really effected my social life as I am in University
As per your query you have tonsillitis after drinking alcohol There can be many reasons for sore throat like bacterial or viral . But in your case it seems to me that the infection is due to virus . Although viral infection go away by its own in few days. I would suggest to consult ENT specialist without delay as it can do more harm to tonsils for proper examination . Doctor may order test like viral culture test and swab test to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe anti viral drug like acyclovir and sucralfate for healing of tonsils. Avoid cold beverages.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
