Hi,

Tonic pupils are the one that reacts slowly to light falling on the eyes. They are the one who also relax slowly once the light is taken of. Majority of cases there is no underlying cause to this condition. They are normally seen in 2 out of 1000 people in the population. They are generally not investigated.

Rarely they can be associated with eye trauma, inflammation, neurological problems, diabetes etc. which require detailed neuro-ophthalmology checkup and investigation. If you have focusing or vision issues when you move from dark to light environment or other way around you require to take a ophthalmologist consultation. With all the effort there is little that can be done to treat the condition.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
