What Causes Tinnitus After Suffering From Cold And Congestion?

Sunday night I started to feel sick. Monday when I woke up, I felt drowsy, weak and my head was congested. Yellow/green mucous when I blew my nose. I ended up going home early from work and slept about 12 hours. Tuesday I still felt congested and my nose was more runny but my right ear was starting to hurt. When I woke up today, I noticed a ringing. Then my cat started to meow and it echoed, every time. It echoes when I talk, when the tv is on, pretty much with any noise. Is this an ear infection or just a side effect from this cold?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complainit seems that due to sever cold there has been infection in ear too that has lead to fluid accumulation in ear as well as tinnitus or ringing in ears is also due to it..
Nothing to worry as the symptoms will gradually improve once the infection will subside..
As of now you can take a course of antibiotics like Azithromycin, anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen, anti allergics like Benadryl, decongestants like Phenylephrine, mucolytics like Ambroxol, nasal decongestant spray containing Xylometazoline and also do steam inhalations and saline nasal irrigations..
Avoid spicy and chilled foods and drink plenty of warm water..
Avoid popping the ears to prevent trauma to eardrum..
In case if after the cold subsides the tinnitus and echoing in ears does not subside consult an Otolaryngologist and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
