What Causes Tingling Sensation In The Hand And Headache?

42 yo female. i went to the ER on 2/13 with headaches and tingling in left hand. EKG and head CT were normal, fasting blood glucose was elevated (246). new diagnosis of DM ii. Started Janumet 100/1000 on 2/19. i have had a headache since the 13th. Headache moves from top of left top of head to the right side, still on top. I feel dizzy- room is not spinning, but head feels kinda wobbly. i also feel nauseous. My blood glucose is 246 now. I have eaten (breakfast and lunch) a total of 53 grams of total carbs, 10 grams sugar, 42 grams protein. Could the dizziness and nausea be just from the DM?

Hi,

I carefully read your question and would explain that the headache does not seem to be related to DM. Have you measured your blood pressure values during the headaches? High blood pressure could be the cause. Besides, the headache and tingling in the left hand may be suggestive of TIA (transient ischemic attack).

That is why, I would recommend performing further tests to investigate for the possible causes:

- a Doppler ultrasound of the neck vessels to exclude possible narrowing and low blood flow to the brain
- blood lipid profile for dyslipidemia
- thyroid hormone levels.

I would also recommend you to closely monitor your blood pressure, frequently during the day. A brain MRI would give more information than a CT scan, especially considering your symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Aida
