What Causes Tingling Sensation In Hands And Feet After Taking Steroids And Methylprednisolone?

my 28 yr old daughter has been experiencing severe hives all over body the last few days. She was given intravenous steroid which brought down the hives. She was also given scripts for methylprenisone, benedryl, Pepcid. About 8 hrs later (after intravenous steroid) experienced tingling sensation in hands and feet that started extending to her elbows and knees. Went back to ER. They did bloodwork which turned out normal and CT scan of her brain which was normal. The tingling is better when she takes the benedryl. IS the tingling sensation possibly allergic reaction (swelling? hives inside her body? as well as out side hives?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dear,

It was probably due to steroids as it causes excitability of nervous system. Benadryl suppress it because it contains depressant of nervous system.

This tingling will go away usually in 2-4 hours. Advise you to decrease dosage of steroid if it comes every time after discussion with the physician who prescribed it.

Take care
