What Causes Tingling Sensation In Cheeks And Tongue After Wisdom Tooth Removal?

I had my upper right wisdom tooth pulled 2 weeks ago. I have had tingling in my lower cheek after 3rd day also my tongue felt thick. At times my chin was itchy and numb. And I felt I had so much saliva I had a lisp for a day. Strange. Now 2 weeks later I feel less itchy on chin but my mouth keeps watering in the right side and tonight while I was sleeping I choked on it in my sleep. It literally woke me up. Why saliva. When I went back for check up my dentist didn't seem like he understood my concerns saying I could be having an allergic reaction. 2 weeks. What could this be. I'm scared to choke in my sleep.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR CONCERN.

Brief Answer - Paresthesia

As per your query tingling sensation in cheeks and tongue after wisdom tooth removal is because of nerve damage which occurs after heavy force used while extracting teeth or it could be because of wrong choice of instruments. If lip tingling also occurs along with this it is because of damage to inferior alveolar nerve.

I would suggest you to wait for around 4-5 weeks your condition of paresthesia will resolve its own. If this does not happen other treatment method is nerve regeneration. You should visit oral surgeon and try to know the exact level of nerve injury. If it can heal its own then you should wait other wise go for nerve regeneration after proper examination.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
