What Causes Thyroid Inflammation While Suffering From PCOS?

My daughter has been diagnosed with polycystic ovarian syndrome, and now is told her thyroid is inflamed and that she has poor coagulation. Can you think of any possible causes or links to these conditions? She is borderline anemic at times as well. Eats really well (healthy) and is skinny, athletic and a lifeguard

Hi, I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Answer: There are many causes and types of thyroid disease. If your daughter is suffering from an autoimmune inflammation of the thyroid gland then there is a possibility that the two conditions are somehow connected.

Both PCOS and thyroid diseases lead to hormonal derangement (of different hormones) and research has revealed that patients with PCOS are at 28% increased risk of developing thyroid disease than normal people who have 8% risk.

The exact explanation (pathophysiology) for this link is not clearly understood.

Hope this helps. And feel free to ask if there is any confusion
